Valencia celebrates Women’s Day

This Friday, March 8, as every year, is a very significant date on the calendar. And it is the International Working Women’s Day, a day when people take to the streets in cities and towns to reflect on the progress made in gender equality, as well as to make visible the struggles and challenges in this area. In Valencia, this commemoration never goes unnoticed. The city prepares for Women’s Day with demonstrations and a series of events that seek to highlight the importance of equality and female empowerment. Thousands of people are expected to participate in this mobilization, showing their support for women in terms of equal rights and opportunities.

Tour demonstrations:

International Women’s Day is celebrated in a significant way in Valencia, this year the demonstration has been divided in two. Therefore, there will be two routes through the streets of the city. One route organized by the Feminist Assembly in Valencia and the other by the Feminist Coordinator in Valencia.

  • Feminist Assembly in Valencia: a tour with the slogan “From misery to rage… and from rage to struggle”.

The route programmed by the Assembly will begin at the Zapadores CIE at 17:30 h, continuing its march along Avenida de Peris y Valero, Reino de Valencia, Gran Vía, and Colón. A stop will be made at 18:30 in the Plaza de San Agustin. To finally go through C/ de los Caballeros towards Plaça de la Mare de Déu. It is expected to arrive at 19:30 pm.

 

  • Feminist Coordinating Committee tour in Valencia: with the slogan ‘Pels drets de les dones, ni un pas enrere’.

This second tour of the Coordinadora will start at Puerta del Mar at 19:00 h, following Calle de Colón, C/ de Xàtiva, Avenida del Marqués de Sotelo, arriving at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and then go down Calle de San Vicente to the Plaza de la Reina where the 8M manifesto will take place. It aims to demand “a system that is not sexist or patriarchal” and that “mothers are not criminalized”.

Other 8M events

  • This March 8 we can also enjoy a mascletà in honor of all women. As in previous years, this will be the work of Reyes Martí pyrotechnics, which through color and rhythm manages to commemorate this day.

  • The Palau de la Música wanted to pay tribute to all women. On March 8 itself, the turn of Blanca Paloma, and on Saturday, in chamber, thirteen women will perform a spectacular tango program.
