Black Valencia
This year 2024, the festival organized by Valencia Negra takes place from May 9 to 19. In this edition, once again the city of Valencia is preparing to be the world capital of the noir genre. It is a cultural festival, of international character, which brings together every year dozens of creators, mostly writers, but also actors, musicians, cartoonists, photographers… As a tribute to the great writer Fco. Gonzalez Ledesma, we awarded a prize in his name, in recognition of an entire literary career. It rewards, through the votes of the readers, the best crime novels of the year; you can still vote. And in this 12th edition, the renowned American author Dennis Lehane will be honored for his outstanding contribution to crime literature. Lehane will participate in an exclusive online meeting on May 10 before receiving the Francisco González Ledesma Award.
It also awards in each edition three novels in three categories: Best Novel, Millor Novel.la and Best Novel. Five works are selected in each category, published between festival and festival Valencia will become for 10 days the epicenter of the noir genre worldwide. Both genre lovers and the curious will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world full of intrigue, surprises and emotions that will keep them in suspense throughout the event.
Each year around a hundred activities are scheduled: meetings with authors, book clubs, theater, concerts, film series or workshops. Some multicultural proposals such as Espai VLC Negra, a space that will host rock concerts, murder parties, magic and humor shows, as well as an immersive Criminal Gymkhana. OFF VLC Negra will also be presented, consisting of pre-festival events in municipal spaces on May 7 and 8.
The activities are held in more than 40 different venues, such as the Bancaja Foundation and the FNAC San Agustín.
